LVC Welcomes Calefax Reed Quintet on Jan. 24
01.22.14 |
Lebanon Valley College welcomes the Calefax Reed Quintet on Jan. 24 at 12 p.m. in Zimmerman Recital Hall, during which the group will perform an exciting and diverse recital. The program, which is made possible through the Burgner Endowed Fund for Chamber Music, is free and open to the public.

The concert is an extension of the Quintet's performance at Temple Ohev Sholom in Harrisburg as part of the city's Market Square Concert Series on Jan. 23 at 8 p.m.

Calefax Reed Quintet, comprised of Oliver Boekhoorn (oboe), Ivar Berix (clarinet), Raaf Hekkema (saxophone), Jelte Althuis (bass clarinet), and Alban Wesly (bassoon), was established 25 years ago in Amsterdam. The five musicians arrange, recompose, and interpret music from eight centuries to suit their unique membership.

The quintet has performed in notable venues across the globe including London's Wigmore Hall, Germany's Wittener Tage für Neue Musik, Belgium's Bach Academy Brugge, and Antwerp's De Singel. Calefax Reed Quintet has released a total of 17 recordings through MDG, the renowned German classical label, as well as the group's personal label, Rioja.

In March 2012, Calefax released their latest CD of Bach's "Goldberg Variations." These variations will be a main feature of the program for the Market Square Concert Series.

Lebanon Valley College offers numerous public performances by students, faculty, and guests of the College throughout the semester. For the list of recitals this spring, visit
