Lebanon Valley College Trumpet Instructors to Present Recital

Two Lebanon Valley College trumpet instructors will join together to present a cornet recital on Sunday, January 20 at 3 p.m. in Lutz Hall. John Copenhaver and Dr. Christopher D. Campbell are both adjunct trumpet instructors at LVC and teach music in Lebanon County school districts.

The recital will showcase all cornet repertoire from composers Herbert L. Clarke, James Burke, Edward Llewelyn, Henri Busser, Carl Hohne, Oskar Bohme and Thorvald Hansen. They will accompanied by pianist Dennis Loftin.

John Copenhaver is a 1987 graduate of Lebanon Valley College where he completed a B.S. in music education. He also earned his M.M. in trumpet performance from West Chester University. Copenhaver studied trumpet with Fred Erdman, Walter Gier, Skip Stine, Lloyd Baddorf, and Dr. Ken Laudermilch. He performs throughout Central Pa. in a variety of musical venues and has played in concert with Andy Williams, Jack Jones, Diane Bish, Bob Newhart, The Manhattan Transfer, the Temptations, the Spinners, Regis Philbin, Petula Clark, Shari Lewis, Tommy Tune, Little Richard, The Four Tops, Bobby Vinton, Clay Aiken, and the Stars of the Lawrence Welk Show.

Copenhaver is currently director of elementary bands for the Lebanon School District and chairs the music department. He currently performs with the Lancaster British Brass Band, By Request, and Susquehanna Brass.

Dr. Christopher D. Campbell has served more than 20 years as a music teacher in the Cornwall-Lebanon School District, where he is the director of the high school and elementary string program. Campbell graduated with a B.S. in music education from Clarion University, a M.M. in music education from Miami University, and a DMA in trumpet performance from the Shenandoah Conservatory of Shenandoah University.

In addition to his teaching duties at Cornwall-Lebanon, Dr. an active studio of LVC students and teaches classes in trumpet literature and trumpet pedagogy. As a performer, Dr. Campbell is a member of Basicly’ Brass, a professional brass quintet based in Reading, plays solo cornet in the Lancaster British Brass Band, and can be heard in many regional chamber orchestras.
