Hispanic Alliance Hosts Fundraiser to Benefit Education Initiatives
10.24.12 |
A banquet to be held at Lebanon Valley College will offer an opportunity to learn about the Hispanic culture while raising money for the Migrant Education Program in Lebanon, Pa., and the Alma Iris Donato School in Carbon de Haina, Dominican Republic. The event will take place in the Mund College Center at Lebanon Valley College on Saturday, November 3 from 6-9 p.m. and requires a $25 donation per ticket. Those who cannot attend are still able to donate $15 to the cause in order to provide one year of school supplies for one child.

Hosted by LVC's Hispanic Student Alliance and the Office of Multicultural Affairs, this celebration will include food, live salsa, merengue, bachata, and other entertainment throughout the night. The Vernon and Doris Bishop Library will also be presenting an exhibition of Hispanic books, CDs, and DVDs that are available to the public from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. that day.

The banquet will raise money for the Migrant Education Program, a local program that assists immigrants with educational and social transition to the area, as well as the Alma Iris Donato School, which is an extension of the Good News Mission team from Hazelton, Pa., that provides educational and social services to citizens of Carbon de Haina. The goal of these programs is to ensure that all migrant students receive a high school diploma after reaching academic standards that will prepare them for responsible citizenship, furthered learning, and productive employment.

The fundraising banquet is the final event of LVC's third celebration of Hispanic Heritage.
