Philadelphia Brass, one of America's leading brass quintets, will perform a concert in Lutz Hall of the Blair Music Center at Lebanon Valley College on Nov. 27 at 7:30 p.m. The program, which is made possible through the Burgner Endowed Fund for Chamber Music, is free and open to the public.
The quintet plays the best of brass literature from all periods and styles in order to educate its audiences about the pleasures, subtleties, and complexities of chamber music. It has produced five CDs, which include "Renaissance and Baroque," "Joan Lippincott and Philadelphia Brass," "Christmas," "Christmas in the Grand Tradition," and the "Anniversary Album." The group also teaches educational programs for all ages and master classes for brass students of the Juilliard School which critics have described as "excellent and sensitively handled."
The Philadelphia Brass was formed by five leading brass professionals of Eastern Pennsylvania in 1988. Members include Anthony Cecere, French horn; Robert Gale, trombone; Brian Kuszyk, trumpet; Scott Mendoker, tuba; and Lawrence Wright, trumpet. They have toured around Eastern, Southern, and Mid-Western United States and abroad. The diversity of repertoire and virtuosity of each performance has been described by critics as "artistry of the highest calibre" with "dazzling technique;" American composer Daniel Pinkham dubbed the group "the most artistic brass quintet before the public today."
