The Sesquicentennial Class, By The Numbers
08.28.12 |
The incoming class of 2016 is a special one because this group of freshmen will earn their diplomas during LVC’s sesquicentennial year celebrating 150 years of academic success. Most of the 410 new freshmen arrived on campus Saturday for orientation and move-in weekend, though some were here early for athletic training, marching band camp, multicultural bridge programs, and more. They might not yet know one another well, but they do have some things in common:

- The 410 freshmen come from 224 different hometowns in 15 different states, and graduated from 234 different high schools.

- They represent 64 counties across the U.S. The top five most popular home counties are Lebanon (51), Lancaster (48), York (45), Dauphin (32), and Schuylkill (22).

- 18 students graduated from Cedar Crest High School, 12 from Lower Dauphin High School, 11 from Cumberland Valley High School, and 9 from both Lebanon and Spring Grove high schools.

- The freshmen have elected to study from LVC’s more than 30 majors, but 39 students have already declared their intent to double major.

- The most popular woman’s name is “Emily,” with 12 Emily’s in the freshman class. The second most popular is “Amanda,” with five.

- The most popular man’s name is “Matthew,” with nine in the class, but “John” or “Johnathan” is a close second with seven.

- There are four students with the last name “Miller” and four with the last name “Jones.”

- 21 students do not have a middle name.
