LVC Presents Michelle Barraclough in Concert with Eric Fung

Lebanon Valley College presents flutist Michael Barraclough for a recital featuring the theme "Night Music" February 17, 2013 at 3 p.m. in Zimmerman Recital Hall. She will be accompanied by Eric Fung on the piano in the free and public concert.

The program will feature the world premiere of Lebanon Valley College professor and composer Scott Eggert's "Nocturnes." Barraclough will also perform works by Schubert, Gaubert, Kennan, and Clarke.

Barraclough is a native of Camp Hill. She holds a bachelor's degree in flute performance from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a master of music degree in flute performance from Catholic University. She performs locally with The Silverwood Trio, the Greater Harrisburg Concert Band, York Symphony Orchestra, Central PA Oratorio Singers, and the Susquehanna Chorale. She is a founding member of the Keystone Winds under the direction of Pennsylvania composer Jack Stamp, where she has recorded several CDs for wind ensemble. She is currently adjunct professor of flute at Lebanon Valley College she teaches lessons, pedagogy, and coaches flute ensemble.

Wisconsin-born composer Scott Eggert was educated at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, the University of Chicago, and the University of Kansas. At these institutions he studied with diverse composers such as John Downey, Ralph Shapey, Easley Blackwood, Roger Sessions, and John Pozdro. He has been on the faculty of Lebanon Valley College for the past 25 years teaching music theory and composition, and composing music in a wide variety of media and an eclectic array of styles and languages. Recent work includes a trio for clarinet, violin and cello titled, "Six Wooden Blocks," a four-movement "Sextet," and a string duo called "Songbook."

Steinway Artist Eric Fung made his orchestral debut in 2000 with the Juilliard Orchestra in Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center. After winning the Johann Sebastian Bach International Competition (Leipzig) in 2002, he performed at the prestigious Hong Kong Arts Festival as an Exxon-Mobil Artist and was the concerto soloist with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra in 2004. In the same year, he made his solo debut at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, N.Y. In 2004, he was featured in a documentary, "Young Chinese Musicians," produced by the Radio Television Hong Kong. His piano teachers include Natalya Antonova, Martin Canin, and Oxana Yablonskaya; he also studied theory and analysis with Carl Schachter, Steven Laitz, and Matthew Brown. Fung teaches applied piano, class piano, and music theory courses at Lebanon Valley College.
