Lebanon Valley College hosted the 10th Annual Cultural Diversity Workshops Wednesday, August 1. The event was sponsored by The Community Health Council of Lebanon County and the Community Wide Wellness Committee.
Adults in the community working with people in Human Services, as medical professionals, child care providers, and school staff attended the workshops in order to improve their understanding of diversity. The workshops facilitated compassion and appreciation for the community’s various cultures and abilities. Those who stayed for the entire event were eligible for ACT 48 credits and general education CEU’s.
Venus Ricks, director of multicultural affairs at LVC, was the event’s keynote speaker. The topic of her presentation was “Speech as a Tool of Oppression.” Other speakers from LVC included Jeff Snyder, director of the College’s music industry program, and Dr. Ivette Guzman-Zavala, professor of Spanish language and culture.
The Community Health Council of Lebanon County (CHC) is comprised of a wide array of public and private organizations. The Board’s Mission Statement is: to identify the under met health needs, to raise awareness and address the issue of substance abuse among youth and ultimately the community-at-large, and to improve the overall health status of the residents of the Lebanon County area through a cooperative community effort.
