Bishop Library Testing Facebook Catalog App
10.25.12 |
LVC’s Vernon and Doris Bishop Library has made numerous improvements and upgrades in the past year, including new group study rooms equipped with computer screens, technology-friendly study spaces on the first floor, and now, a Facebook app that allows users to search and reserve books via Facebook.

The app, “Catalog Search & Reserve,” is accessible from the College’s Facebook page. After searching a title, users can like or share the book via Facebook, Google+, or Twitter, and place items on hold for pick up in the campus library.

“Facebook is a very popular site, especially with students. With this new Facebook app, Bishop Library hopes to provide quick and easy access to the library catalog and encourage sharing of books and other resources,” said Lori Nyce, systems and electronic services librarian at LVC.

The app is available to the public, but only current students, faculty, and staff can reserve items for pick up. LVC is testing the app on a trial through December 2012 and will evaluate its success at the end of the semester.

“Students and staff should test the app on Facebook and let us know what you think of it,” Nyce said. “If you like it and think the library should purchase this product, please tell us by emailing”
