Lebanon Valley College Presents Slam Poet Sonya Renee
11.05.12 |
Critically acclaimed slam poet Sonya Renee will recite her poetry, strongly rooted in social activist and women's rights, in a free and public performance sponsored by Lebanon Valley College on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m. at MJ's Coffeehouse. The microphone will be open to anyone who would like to share their poetry after her performance.

Her impressive accomplishments within the slam poetry genre led Renee to be featured on national TV. Her poetry has also received numerous awards at the Four Continents European National Slam Championship. She is known by many for her poetry that is perceived as being blunt, raw, and poignant.

Supporting herself since age 17, Sonya Renee has become an idol for the way she uses her poetry to express her internal and external hardships. Coming from a checkered family life of addiction and illness, she has worked her way up to being the most recognizable female in the world of slam poetry.

This performance is sponsored by Lebanon Valley College's Office of Multicultural Affairs, Women's Services and Gender Resource Center, Student Activities, and Counseling Services. For more information please call 717-867-6235.
