| Lebanon Valley College Receives $400,000 Stabler Foundation Grant |

President Lewis Thayne has announced that the College received a $400,000 grant from The Donald B. and Dorothy L. Stabler Foundation in Harrisburg.
The grant augments the College’s existing Stabler Scholarship Fund created in December 2008 with a $1 million gift from the Stabler Foundation. This remains the largest single foundation grant in the history of the College. The primary consideration in awarding Stabler Scholarships is the financial need of upperclassmen at Lebanon Valley College from counties in Central and Eastern Pennsylvania.
“We are deeply grateful for the generous and continued support of The Donald B. and Dorothy L. Stabler Foundation. Never before has the need for financial aid been so essential,” President Thayne said. “The foundation helped to provide the necessary funds to make a college education affordable for more than 20 students.”
Stabler Scholarship Fund recipients have grown from six students at its inception in 2010, to 23 students this academic year, with some students receiving scholarship assistance for multiple years. The 23 students represent 14 majors, ranging from biology and early childhood education, to criminal justice and health sciences.
“What I particularly admire about the terms of the grant is that it encourages recipients to make charitable donations back to the College once they have graduated,” Thayne continued. “This encouragement educates those students about the vital need for philanthropic support to their alma mater from its alumni.”
Lebanon Valley College is consistently ranked among the top three in the North in the “Great Schools, Great Prices” category among “Best Regional Colleges” according to U.S. News and World Report. Lebanon Valley is also recognized for its pioneering merit based scholarship program, where students who graduate in the top 30 percent of their class receive and automatic scholarship ranging from one-quarter to one-half of the cost of tuition. For the 2012–13 academic-year, the top Presidential Scholarship, The Vickroy Award, was valued at $16,835.
