What’s Free at LVC?
07.24.12 |
With all the work that goes along with college academics, its no wonder that college students need time to unwind. Yet students are often under a strict budget, and these days even going to the movies can break the bank.

“Don’t want to spend 10 bucks on a weekend movie?” asks Todd Snovel, LVC associate director of student activities and engagement, “Stay around campus and take advantage of the comedians, magicians, hypnotists, and musicians that grace the stages of LVC each Friday night.”

Friday night performers are brought to campus by LVC’s student programming board and are always free to LVC students. The programming board also sponsors a series of performers at MJ’s Coffeehouse on Thursday evenings. Free coffee is available to students who pick up a Coffeehouse Series mug when they arrive.

Saturday trips are listed on students’ MyLVC account, many of which are free or very low-cost. After returning from a trip, students can enjoy the weekly Saturday night dance party in The Underground on the lower level of Mund College Center. Performances by the Wig and Buckle Theater Company and Colloquium films at the Allen Theatre in Annville are also always free.

Athletic events are a frequent and entertaining occurrence on campus. Additionally, all LVC students have free access to the weight and cardio room and to exercise classes like Zumba and Body Pump. LVC’s indoor pool is scheduled for several weekly swim times for students as well. The Arnold Sports Center offers free sports equipment rental so that students can play basketball, racquetball, and tennis at their leisure.

If after all these options students are still looking for entertainment, the library offers an enormous selection of movies and CD’s that are free to borrow and enjoy. Pause the movie to do laundry – it’s also free!

Budgeting is an important part of any student’s routine, and LVC’s Career Services Office offers an entire free Financial Literacy Series to educate students on how to save and budget their money. Check out the blog entry from last semester’s sessions here.
