PERC Names LVC Campus Sustainability Champions Bryttani Craigle ’14 and Michelle Krall M’11
11.21.13 |
Bryttani Craigle ’14, Sustainability Advisory Committee data intern, and Michelle Krall M’11, associate director of alumni and parent engagement and former Sustainability Advisory Committee member, were recognized as Campus Sustainability Champions by the Pennsylvania Environmental Resource Consortium (PERC) along with other representatives from colleges and universities around the state. Craigle and Krall were nominated to represent the sustainability initiatives happening at Lebanon Valley College.

“Serving as a member of the Sustainability Advisory Committee has helped me to understand how vital sustainability is to everything,” Craigle said. It also has given me the opportunity to make my contribution to promoting sustainability at LVC.”

Because of their accomplishments, Craigle and Krall were invited to the PERC conference “Leading the Change” on October 29 at the Penn State campus in State College. At the conference, all Champions received a certificate for their efforts in sustainability, and six Champions spoke about their unique efforts to show the diversity of inspiring initiatives.

“After attending the recent conference, I was able to learn what sustainable ventures other institutions are embarking upon, and identify ways to incorporate new initiatives into LVC’s journey to a more sustainable campus,” Craigle said. She was accompanied to the conference by Don Santostefano, facilities director at LVC and member of the Sustainability Advisory Committee.

Craigle completes LVC’s carbon footprint calculations as the committee’s data intern and has also been part of the College’s Earth Days celebrations. She uses a Campus Carbon Calculator to analyze the emissions produced by the College throughout a fiscal year, and considers direct emissions such as fossil fuel combustion of campus fleet vehicles, indirect emissions such as purchased electricity, and other emissions such as travel by students and staff abroad. Craigle has interned for the committee for two years.

Krall co-chaired the sustainability committee from 2011 to 2013 and assisted in planning the College’s Earth Days celebrations. In previous years, Krall has advocated for increased recycling on campus, supervised sustainability interns, and helped to raise awareness of sustainability initiatives on campus.

PERC is committed to recognizing the statewide effort of individuals who are doing commendable work on moving sustainability forward on college campuses and in the community. Serving to connect people working on sustainability projects in Pennsylvania’s colleges and universities, PERC allows representatives from campuses to share knowledge and take action towards a sustainable future.
