Lebanon Valley College is honored to host the 34th annual Middle Atlantic Council of Latin American Studies (MACLAS) meeting March 8–9 in Lynch Memorial Hall.
This year's theme is "From Xocolatl to Xuxa: Latin America in the World." This annual spring meeting will feature research-based panels and a business meeting.
Presentations from numerous scholars will take place throughout the two-day event, including a presentation from Lebanon Valley College's Dr. Diane Johnson, chair of the history and political science department. She will present her research titled, "The President v. the Press: The Recent Battle in Argentina and its Effects on Democratic Consolidation."
Some panel topics include "Memory, Ethnicity, and Modernity in Spanish American Poetry," "Dictatorships, Coups, and the Media in Argentina and Paraguay," "Social Movements and Improvements in Latin America," and "Cuisine and Culture across the Americas."
MACLAS has more than 200 members who are invited to join the conference.
Founded in 1979, MACLAS is comprised of Mid-Atlantic region scholars, researchers, teachers, students, and interested professionals in all disciplines and pursuits. The objective of MACLAS is to promote and develop interest in Latin American studies and affairs. Learn more at www.maclas.org.
