Breast Cancer Awareness Month Events at LVC
10.05.12 |
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and a number of student organizations have planned campus events to benefit the cause. In athletics, three teams will hold “pink” events this month, while LVC’s chapter of Colleges Against Cancer (CAC) will run its annual Pink Week.

The women’s soccer team is participating in its annual Pink On the Pitch program in support of the American Cancer Society (ACS). The team wears special edition pink jerseys for all home matches during the month of October and runs a jersey auction throughout the month to benefit the ACS. Bids are accepted online at GoDutchmen.com or at the fundraising table at home matches.

The men’s and women’s swim teams will hold their annual Pink Meet on Oct. 23. The event falls on the teams’ home opener against Albright. Last year’s event featured a bake sale, t-shirt sales, pink rubber duckies, and a raffle, and was a huge success.

CAC will run Pink Week Oct. 22-27, with a number of events for students at which donations will be accepted for the ACS and work toward cancer prevention, patient support services, and cancer research. Planned events include:

-Pink hair dying, hosted by Sigma Alpha Iota
-Pink Zumba at Arnold Sports Center
-Student performers at MJ’s Coffee House
-Pink food in the cafeteria on Oct. 26
-Pink smoothies at Intermetzo
-Breast cancer education table at lunch Oct. 24-26

Not all dates and times are finalized for Pink Week events. For more information, contact Amanda Hanna at lvc.cac@gmail.com.

Pink Week wraps up with the football team’s Pink Game on Oct. 27. On the field, the Dutchmen will host Delaware Valley in a 1 p.m. conference game. Off the field, fans will find pink baked goods, a bracelet making station, pink pom poms for kids, raffles, and pink t-shirts for sale. Parents and fans will be able to help the football team reach their goal for the 2013 LVC Relay For Life Event by making donations in support of a specific player.

Additionally, all fall sports teams will wear pink shoelaces donated by Good Samaritan Hospital in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The laces are intended to remind athletes’ loved ones to get screened for breast cancer.
