Lebanon Valley College Presents Free Jazz Concert
05.01.13 |
Lebanon Valley College's 44-member Jazz Band will perform in their annual concert Friday, May 3 at 7:30 p.m. in Lutz Hall of the Blair Music Center. The concert is free and open to the public.

The band will perform a variety of jazz styles, from the traditional sounds of swing to the rhythmic excitement of Latin and jazz fusion. The performance will include selections made famous by the Beatles, Glen Miller, Duke Ellington, Bill Holman, Cannonball Adderley, John Fedchock, and Jeff Jarvis. Soloists will be featured throughout the concert.

LVC's Jazz Band was first organized in 1960 under the auspices of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, a professional fraternity for men in music. The formative years were spent on campus performing for school functions and serving as an outlet for the musician who enjoyed playing jazz.

Since 1961, campus concerts have become one of the most important school functions. Many top artists have performed with the band, including Walt Levinsky '15, Jerome Richardson, Bill Watrous, Cecil Bridgewater, Bobby Christian, Bobby Rosengarden, Marvin Stamn, Urbie Green, Arnie Lawrence, Tommy Newsome, Harold Danko, and Roland Vasquez.

The band is composed of members with varied musical backgrounds and is under the direction of Tom Strohman, professor of music. Each year the band tours throughout Pennsylvania and surrounding states.
