LVC will formally showcase the scholarly, scientific, and creative accomplishments of students during the first annual Celebration of Student Learning on April 26-28, sponsored by the Office of Academic Affairs.
For three days, each of the academic departments will host research poster presentations, art displays, poetry readings, oral research presentations, and musical recitals. Presentations are open to all students, faculty, parents, and community members. The event will culminate with the Spring Awards Program and Banquet on Apr. 28 at 4:30 p.m.
The idea for the Celebration of Student Learning originated with Dr. Michael Green, vice president of academic affairs and dean of the faculty, who wanted to provide “high impact learning experiences” for the students at LVC. Green explains his idea further in a YouTube video, at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4253DZlMrCU.
Ann Damiano, associate dean for academic affairs believes the program is a great opportunity for undergraduates to demonstrate the knowledge and skills they have gained while at the College. “Our students have done some remarkable, noteworthy work during their academic careers, and faculty have been steadfastly devoted to cultivating their learning and encouraging them to develop intellectually,” she said. “As far as an impact on the community goes, we are hoping to show that while we are a small college, our student produce big results.”
More than 150 students from every academic department will be recognized during the showcase, and an additional 150 will be honored at the awards banquet.
