The Lebanon Valley College ice hockey team released exciting news Thursday, announcing its first-ever outdoor game at Hersheypark Stadium on Jan. 22.
The Dutchmen will face off against the defending ACHA champion Delaware Blue Hens. Just two days earlier, the Hershey Bears will host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the 2013 Capital BlueCross AHL Outdoor Classic on the same ice.
"This game fits right into what we are trying to do with the program," head coach Don Parsons said. "We will be playing against the 2011-2012 ACHA national champions, and I couldn't think of a better team to bring into what I expect to be a crazy atmosphere!"
Last season, Neumann and Penn State drew national attention in an outdoor game played at Citizen's Bank Park on the tail of the National Hockey League's Winter Classic.
Junior captain Tyler Skroski ’14 made his own pitch for the game and its importance to members of the team. “When I first heard about this, I was very excited to be able to partake in LVC hockey’s first-ever outdoor game,” Skroski said. “It will be an exciting game and more importantly a moment to remember in LVC hockey history.
“If you have the chance to make the game I highly recommend it because it will be something you won't ever forget.”
Hersheypark Stadium seats 15,641 attendees for football, though seating configuration will be altered to accomodate hockey. Ticketing information for LVC's outdoor game will be released at a later date. Check back with GoDutchmen.com for a full schedule announcement in the coming weeks.
